Boozoo Bajou

Boozoo Bajou´s producers Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider are already widely celebrated around the globe for their unique blend of modern electronica with blues, jazz, soul, latin-music and dub.

Just like Kruder & Dorfmeister or Nightmares on Wax, German downtempo duo Boozoo Bajou’s musical journey started in the mid Nineties pumping out a healthy number of 12-inches and albums for Stereo Deluxe, !K7 and Apollo leaning towards dub and trip-hop. 

They earned attention with their irresistible breakthrough single ‘Night Over Manaus’ in 1998, their legendary debut album ‚Satta’ released in 2001 and it ´s 2005 sequel ‘Dust My Broom’. They also demonstrated their excellent and wide-ranging musical taste on two excellent mix-compilations, ‘Juke Joint’ on Stereo Deluxe and ‘Juke Joint II’ on !K7. Furthermore their darker, 2014 album 4 on Apollo, which was influenced by ambient dub artists like Brian Eno, the Basic Channel roster, and Jon Hassell. With more than 100.000 albums sold and their music being featured on over 300 compilations, Boozoo Bajou have managed to capture a wide audience with their individualistic approach to modern music.

In addition, Florian and Peter have remixed and collaborated with a wide range of major artists. These include hip-hop superstar Common, Joe Dukie from New Zealand dub-rock collective Fat Freddy’s Drop, rapper Oh No from the Stones Throw camp, former Motown writer-producer and blaxploitation soundtrack legend Willie Hutch, and the veteran Louisiana singer-songwriter Tony Joe White, author of the all-time classic ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’.

With „Retrospektive”, Boozoo Bajou are releasing a 20 track compilation showcasing their career spanning 20 years of producing great downbeat and lounge music. „Retrospektive” starts in the duo’s early days with well-known tracks from their exquisite debut album „Satta” including „Under My Sensi” or „Divers”, leading into one of their big career highlights – teaming up with Fat Freddy’s Drop lead singer Joe Dukie on „Take It Slow”. After signing to !K7 records Boozoo Bajou released two further albums. Outtakes from those releases made it into the tracklist of the new „Best of” compilation „Retrospektive”. These include legendary collaborations with Tony Joe White titled „Keep Going” and the last ever vocal recording of the Motown Blaxploitation legend Willie Hutch immortalised on „Treat Me”. Other highlights include „Same Sun” and „Heavy On Me” from their third album „Grains” featuring UK’s finest female singer Rumer. Instrumental classics like „YMA”, „Second To None” or „Fuersattel” bring the 100 minute introduction to the eclectic world of Boozoo Bajou to its conclusion.

After 25 years, since they started their project “Boozoo Bajou“, it was time for Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider to launch their own label called “Pilotton“. It simply feels great for them to have their own little treasure isle of music for the fans and the people loving the Boozoo Bajou Sound worldwide. With „Orfeu” being their first release they capture the core sound of Boozoo Bajou at it’s best.
